For some modifications its useful to change already existing engine sensors to upgraded ones from the aftermarket or even other OEM parts.

The most common change is propably another MAF sensor so the ECU is capable of processing more airflow. But also an M50 manifold swap requires you to change the IAT sensor data because of the different charactaristic curve.

All temperature sensor voltage data (Volts -> °C) is listed together with the pullup resistor value for MS42 and MS43, keep that in mind when you want to use data from this site for standalone ECUs.

We try to find out sensor resistance data so that you can create your own voltage data for non factory ECU useage.

The term (X*0.0048828125) is used by MS42 and MS43 to convert the ADC input signal into voltage. Just ignore this to get the voltage conversion.

Mass Air Flow Sensors

Please keep in mind that you have to apply the MAF hack to your firmware binary when exceeding 1024kgh.

Audi S4 MAF Sensor

The Bosch 0280218038 MAF sensor is installed in the Audi S4 B5 series. Sometimes you will also find it even cheaper under the VAG replacement part number 078906461B.

The sensor itself is a Bosch HFM5 slot-in type and comes premounted in a 73mm inner diameter tube.

According to HPX both grounds can be connected with no negative effect on reading accuracy. So you only need +12V, ground and the MAF output signal to adapt it to an MS42 or MS43.

Temperature Sensors

If you want to use different anolog sensors, it's important to know the ECUs internal electrical circuit diagram, since the sensor value differs when you calculate the sensor voltage with a wrong pull-up resistor.

The MS42/MS43s intake air temperature is measured over a voltage divider with a 2.49kOhm pull-up resistor to the internal +5V supply.
