Fuel Injector Deadtimes

Every fuel injector type has a unique minimum injection time and latency for it to fully open once energized.

This latency is often referred to as injector lag, dead time, offset, or delay (ip_ti_add_dly__vb).

It is strongly dependent on the supply voltage and therefore stored in an interpolated table.

The minimum injection time is also important to make sure the injection pattern is clear and complete. (c_ti_min_iv). Minimum injection time is calculated by subtracting the dead time at 14v from the minimum pulse width.

All values here are meant for the standard fuel pressure of 3.5 bars (50.76 psi). The flow rate for different pressures can be calculated here: Injector Calculator

The voltage describing Y-axis ldpm_vb_1 is also used for the ignition coil charging Dwell time tables ip_td_*. Be careful with changes to the axis values!

ATTENTION: The conversion factor of the old definitions files is wrong. Correct conversion factor for injector deadtime is "X * 0.032", resulting in a range of 0.00ms to 8.16ms.

Hint: In order to work with an unmodified, factory fuel injector harness on M5X engine cars, the injectors used must have an EV1/Jetronic (square/rectangular) connector. Injectors with an EV6/EV14/USCAR (oval) connector will require adapters.

  • These injectors are not recommend for use on pump gas because of how low of a pulse width they idle at.
  • When using these injectors with an M54 intake manifold, you need to use 14mm top hats (the o-ring diameter is 14mm and the top hat itself is 14mm). Additionally, the area of the connector hits the intake manifold so you need to rotate the injectors and use an extension harness to be able to plug them in.
