The Siemens MSD81 is the successor of the MSD80, one of the first DI (direct injection) capable ECUs Siemens produced and is used in combination with the N54, BMWs first turbo charged engine of the "New Generation" engines.
MSD translates into MotorSteuerung Direkteinspritzung, or engine control unit direct injection.
